Delegated examiners test drivers on buses, coaches, freight and public service vehicles. The companies and public service authorities that own and operate the vehicles employ these examiners, but they’re authorised to carry out the driving tests at their own site for their own company.
If your company wants you to become a delegated examiner, it will need to apply to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). DVSA will consider whether you
- have a full driving licence for the type of vehicle you’re testing in
- have had any convictions in the last 3 years
- have been disqualified from driving
- have any court proceedings pending against you
- have any penalty points on your licence.
If the application is accepted, you’ll then need to
- complete an initial training course
- reach an appropriate standard in the delegated driving examiner theory and practical tests.
Your company will be sent information about these when the application is accepted.
