Initial Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) You must have a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) before you can drive a passenger-carrying vehicle (PCV) for a living. There are four modules in the Driver CPC: two are the same as the tests you’ll take for getting your PCV licence. 1. Theory test: this is the same as the theory test for your PCV licence.2. Driver CPC case study test3. Driving ability test: this is the same as the practical test for your PCV licence.4. Driver CPC demonstration test You can find a guide to the Driver CPC on GOV.UK. Video of Driver CPC: the basics When you’ve passed all four modules, you’ll be given a Driver Qualification Card (DQC) which you must carry with you whenever you’re driving a PCV. Module 2: Driver CPC case study test You must pass the case study test before you can take the practical demonstration test. Like the theory test, you’ll take this on-screen. The case study test lasts 75 minutes and covers seven case studies, with 50 questions altogether. You’ll need to score out least 40 out of 50 to pass the test. Module 4: Driver CPC demonstration test In this test you’ll need to show that you can keep your vehicle safe and secure. You’ll be asked about safe use of your vehicle and checks to make before driving helping passengers get on and off the vehicle safely checking for risks from criminal acts and trafficking assessing emergencies and risks. The test lasts 30 minutes. You’ll need to score at least 80 out of 100 points, with at least 15 out of 20 for each topic area. Watch this DVSA video about the demonstration test.
